The Women’s Conference – What an Amazing Day
Oct 24th
This October, for the fourth year in a row, I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to attend the Women’s Conference in California hosted by the First Lady, Maria Shriver.
Over 14,000 women were in attendance in Long Beach with over one million others viewing the events of the day via satellite or on a webcast. I felt so lucky to be empowered once again by these dynamic speakers.
The morning started out with Marilyn McCoo from the Fifth Dimension singing the Star Spangled Banner, and the day ended with Bonnie Raitt singing Let’s Give them Something to Talk About and other songs.
In between, we were treated to seeing and hearing from Jennifer Lopez who asked us to think about what our legacy will be. Deborah Norville asked us to open our hearts. Warren Buffett seemed calm on a day with another stock market significant loss and told us to be fearful when others are greedy and to be greedy when others are fearful.
Condoleeza Rice talked about her ambitious career and told us to do what we love. We did a group zen meditation with Jack Kornfield. CNN’s Christiane Amanpour was introduced as the greatest international journalist of our time and shared her thoughts that being a female news correspondent was like being a man, only better. I sat in the session with former U.S. Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright and with tennis pro Billy Jean King who told us the use of a wife’s role is to take over a husband’s job.
We heard from Gloria Steinem, and was inspired by Maria Shriver thoughout the day, who although she claims she doesn’t like her current title, she loves her job. She inspired the group by telling us that it can take a long time to become the person you want to be. She added that if you stay in fear mode, it assures that you won’t move forward with your life.
The added bonus of the day was the Wellness Center located in The Village. I stopped by for a free flu shot, glucose and cholesterol test, passed the bone density test with flying colors, and found out that I had 20/30 vision.
At the end of the day, I was enriched, healthy, and happy. It is inspirational people like those I heard speak at the Women’s Conference that make me realize how happy I am to be a woman and to be living in this great State of California.

Cyber Dating Safety Tips
Oct 15th

Online dating can be fun. But don’t neglect safety and common sense when you try to hook up with a mate. At minimum, take caution in the following areas.
Protect Your Computer
Take care of your equipment and systems before you head out into the Internet realm. You need to have a firewall and anti-virus protection for your email and for when you search websites and interact online. At the bare minimum, you may want these two solutions that are offered at no charge to home computer users (i.e. not for commercial use):
Free Firewall Download: ZoneAlarm www.zonelabs.com
Free Anti-Virus Download: AVG Anti-Virus www.grisoft.com
Protect Yourself
Take care of yourself, too, by choosing appropriate dating sites. Seek and choose a reputable online dating service. How? Begin by asking around with friends, neighbors, co-workers and others you may know who have tried online dating, and see which places they recommend. In addition, search “online dating services” and keep a notebook of their URLs or website links, the fees, rules and regulations, complete contact information of each and any other useful information that spikes your interest. Then compare each place. Try only those places where you feel safe. Avoid the others.
So take care. Arm your computer – and yourself- with the correct tools and knowledge!
