Cyber Love Story of the Week – Meredith and Mark

Dec 31st

markandmeredithMark sent an introductory email to Meredith in August, 2006 on Match.com® Official Site.   Meredith didn’t respond to his emails at first.  Mark was determined to meet Meredith and cleverly figured out her personal screen name on AOL and contacted her directly.  His efforts paid off and the couple’s first date was in September, 2006.  Things progressed well and they moved in together the following year.

On November 22, 2008, where it was a chilly 25 degrees in Boston, Mark got down on one knee and proposed to Meredith under the Christmas tree at Faneuil Hall. The couple is now planning a wedding in the Spring of 2010.

Congratulations to Meredith and Mark, our Cyber Love Story of the Week at cyberdatingexpert.com

On the Night Before Christmas

Dec 25th

hanukkahIt was the night before Christmas, and although the streets were quiet with people at home getting ready for the holidays, there were two large Christmas Eve Celebrations in town for those who were celebrating the holiday of Hanukkah.

This year both Christmas and Hanukkah are being celebrated at the same time. No one felt left out at the House of Blues on Sunset Strip, where JDate hosted the 15th annual Schmooza-A-Palooza event.

It was mostly a 30-something crowd on the dance floor and guests went home with a musical CD called SONGS IN THE KEY OF HANUKKAH to play for the remaining days of the holiday. It was the perfect opportunity for someone  who might have viewed your online dating profile to say a friendly hello.

Best wishes for a warm and happy holiday. I wish you all the best for successful cyber-dating in 2009!

Peril of the Week – Two is Not Better than One

Dec 21st

periloftheweekIn the category of oops – I got caught, I recently heard the story of a young woman who was told she had an exclusive relationship by the man she met online. Apparently, he made the same promise to another woman in the same town. What the gentleman courter didn’t realize is that while one girlfriend was a hairdresser at a fancy salon in town, that the other girlfriend was a patron of the same establishment. Now, no one knows more of the intimate details of their patrons than a hair stylist or a manicurist who are not bound by confidentiality. So when the patron told her hair stylist about her new beau, the hair stylist shared her joy and told her she also met someone online and that they agreed to date exclusively as well. With his online profile removed, both felt comfortable their love was sincere. However, while sharing this information both became aware that their new boyfriend had the same first name. When his last name was revealed and it too indeed did match, a cat fight did not take place. The beau simply got caught and was dumped by both of the women. The moral of the story, “two is not better than one.” If you are not ready to commit, make it plain and clear while you are dating, or you may walk away empty-handed.

Digital Family Reunion

Dec 17th

digitalfamilyreunion

It was an event that topped all events last week at the Digital Family Reunion where early adopters of the Internet from the web 1.0 crowd mingled with the web 2.0 crowd at a holiday celebration. Presented as the holiday party of the millennium with about 800 in attendance, many of us reminisced about the last ten to fifteen years including the dotcom bubble as well as the bursts in our careers.

Guests were promised they would reignite old relationships, spark new ones, and get ready for 2009 with a new start. The promise was an understatement.  It was social networking at its best.

The producer, a long time friend of mine – Brad Nye, along with Tony Winders, Kurt Daradicks, and Dave Leighton from Women in Technology International, coordinated an energizing event with technology gurus in our industry.

I was practically in tears as I thanked Brad Nye for co-creating the title of my new book, The Perils of Cyber-Dating, with me back in 1995. Almost 14 years later the book is now being published and will be released in February of 2009.

The Digital Family Reunion’s mission is to help set an engagement platform to advance the conversation between these like-minded, yet diverse communities by asking the question: “If we knew how connected we all are, how would that change everything?”

Lives were changing that evening as busy attendees were cultivating new relationships. Embracing the web 2.0 world with new friends we meet along the way is changing the way we communicate and relate in today’s world of expanding your social and business network on a daily basis.  I am glad to be a part of this convergence and wonder what will be in store for us when web 3.0 arrives.
