I have attended Twiistup several times. Their latest gathering took place at the Universal Hilton Hotel on July 30th and 31st. This group of technology leaders and entrepreneurs meet to showcase new technology companies and incubators. Members of the VC world look at the prospects for investing.
Twiistup Music and Technology Panel
The highlight is always the Twiistup Evening party. Prior to the evening festivities, I attended the Music and Technology panel with rap star and recording artist Chamillionaire, Topspin’s Ian Rogers, and QD3.
Chamillionaire clearly rocked the show and was passionate about using Twitter, giving back to the community, and paying it forward. He gave his Twitter tips to the group and said it was a “must” for anyone who wants to connect with their audience. He added that “Authenticity and passion are keys for success for social networking.” At the time of this writing, he has over 45,000 followers!

The theme for the evening was 60s and many dressed up for the occasion and enjoyed listening to music from that decade while nibbling on cupcakes from Crumbs Bake Shop at the BakeSpace booth. It was a social networking crowd and everyone was enjoying the festivities while tweeting away and watching their tweets on the PeopleBrowsr monitor.

Peril of the Week – Three’s a Crowd

A recently divorced New Yorker, decided to try online dating after his frustration of meeting the same type of women over and over again in the city. He took the time to put together an attractive, yet honest profile and was looking forward to meeting someone with similar interests.
After some misses, he thought he may have found a hit after his first couple of dates with a particular woman. He thought she was cute, smart, and athletic — all characteristics that he was looking for in a girlfriend and future wife.
As they continued dating, however, the gentleman noticed a disturbing trend. It seemed that every time they went out she got plastered and made a fool of herself. As he thought about it more, he realized that she drank more than any of his friends. They had been dating for 3 months and he decided to give her some additional time to see if she would snap out of it.
He took his cyber-date on a romantic weekend getaway with a few other couples, and the outcome was the same. She got smashed again. In the middle of the night, she woke up in a drunken stupor, got ill in the bathroom, and returned to the wrong room. As she crawled into a bed that was not her own, she woke up the couple sleeping there. The awoken woman was none to pleased and began accusing her boyfriend of inviting her into their bed for a “three-some.”
After the yelling and screaming died down and everyone returned to their own beds, the gentleman wondered how he could have gotten so involved with the tipsy girlfriend. The next day, he ended their relationship.
A few weeks later, she reappeared on a different Internet dating site advertising different quality traits than she actually had and never mentioned her love for partying. He realized she was not the girl for him and he added her profile to wwwdateraters.com and suggested she seek help for her alcohol addiction.

It was with great anticipation that I waited for the arrival of Dr. Pat Allen’s latest book, The Truth About Men Will Set You Free: …but first it’ll p*ss you off!
The subject of science in mating and relationships is a huge topic right now. Many online dating sites have personality profiling, there is gene testing, and yet we are still so confused about how to mate successfully.
In her book, which is co-authored by Don Schmincke, Pat Allen defines the rule of mating. She stated that guys use “things” to prove love and girls use “love” to prove things. She goes further by stating that “love is what females give sex for and sex is what guys give love for.” Does it sound confusing? Not if you read this book. According to Dr. Pat Allen, this is why guys can program the VCR better than women. Dr. Pat Allen has been studying this for over 30 years. She should know.
She encourages women to let their estrogen roll and to capitalize on body language with these tips:
- Eyes: Paint them.
- Lips: Make them red.
- Clothing: Stress the female shape.
- High Heels: Use’em.
- Breasts: Expose them.
- Exercise and Diet: You know this.
Pat tells women, ”You might let your guy know that he could have a better chance of whispering “sweet nothings” to you in your left ear versus your right. Then again, you might not want to.”

Cyber Love Story of the Week – Damona and Seth

By the time Damona met Seth, she thought she had online dating down to a science. She would search for new faces a couple times a week, see emails, respond to emails, IM, talk on phone, go to her neighborhood hangout, Lola’s for one drink and one drink only.
When Damona joined Nerve.com, she was 24-years-old, but considered herself wise beyond her years. She couldn’t possibly date a younger guy or even one her own age, so she searched men 25 years and older on the internet dating sites. Damona was having more success on Matchmaker.com than she did on Nerve. As a matter of fact, her Inbox on Nerve was fairly empty.
Then one day, she received a message from a man who called himself Mr. Pandemonium on Nerve. Damona took one look at his picture and said, “When can I meet you?” She threw all her well-learned rules out the window and didn’t even notice that Seth was also 24-years old.
She asked him to call her before the date so she could diligently check him out, but this time, she suggested he choose a place to meet. Seth suggested her favorite place…Lola’s. She laughed to herself, “Lola’s it is.”

Book Signing at Tikkun Holistic Spa

It was a sunny beach day in Santa Monica, but those singles who chose to go indoors and spend the day at Tikkun Holistic Spa, were treated to the warm hospitality from owner Niki Han Schwarz at her luxurious spa.
Guests mingled in the lounge area and talked about their dating woes. Many complained about those who lie on their online dating profiles about their age. Others just enjoyed the detoxification that took place in the Himalayan Salt Room, the Heated Jade Room, and the Hwangto Clay Room. A few fantasized about a return trip to the spa with the hopes of making a reservation in the private spa journey suite.
Many went home with an autographed copy of my Internet dating book, The Perils of Cyber-Dating.
