Sandra Bullock Giving Dating Tips?

First, it was Brad Pitt, who told fans in the August-2009 edition of WIRED magazine to lie about their age in their online dating profiles.

Now, another Hollywood star is dishing out her dating advice. This time, it’s actress, Sandra Bullock. Bullock was quoted in a recent article on Female First as suggesting a woman secretly “stalk” the man she is interested in to learn more about him. She added that it was a good way for a woman to lure in her prey.

In Bullock’s new film, All About Steve, she plays the role of Mary Horowitz who becomes obsessed about a man after their first blind date.

Would dating tips like these scare a good man away?

In a recent column on Date Daily, I was asked by a gentleman how to handle a woman who turned out to be a cyber-stalker. This of course, was after the fact when the relationship ended.

Bullock’s film is scheduled to be released this Friday, September 4, 2009.

Date Daily: Online Women Wanting Hookups and Facebook Woes

Women complain about the men they meet in online dating sites who only want to have casual flings and hook-up. It appears the tables have turned and now some men aren’t happy about it either.

Read my answer to this question, along with dating advice for the woman with Facebook status woes in DateDaily.

Malibu Wine Classic Charity Event

img_1556It was one of the warmest weekends of the summer with tragic fires burning in Hollywood. Many Angelenos flocked to the beach in Malibu to leave the smoke and flames to attend the seventh annual Malibu Wine Classic Charity Event.

Some of the hottest wineries from the Southern and Central California Coastal wine regions participated in the event along with some of the finest restaurants in Southern California.

We were treated to tastings from the Saddle Peak Lodge, the Beachcomber Cafe on the Malibu Pier, Michael’s Restaurant in Santa Monica, STK Steakhouse, and the Water Grill along with over 20 other restaurants. Mariel Hemingway, actress and author of Mariel’s Kitchen, who is featured regularly in the Love Potions on the Cyber-Dating Expert site, was there serving food from one of her favorite restaurants along with her famous “blisscuits.” Even a thin Tori Spelling was seen enjoying the food and wine at the event.

The event, which featured over 70 wineries, benefited Childhelp®, the largest non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention, education, advocacy and treatment of child abuse.

Peril of the Week – Something’s Fishy

somethingsfishy

An attractive woman went for dinner with her cyber-date to a trendy restaurant. They met on her favorite online dating site. As they were escorted to their table, the gentleman complained to her that something smelled like fish. She replied with a witty comment and said, “You don’t want to say that to a lady.” He replied with, “Well, it happened when you showed up.”

She stayed for drinks to be polite, but they never made it to dinner.

I’m so Dizzy

dizzysbusiness

It was a warm summer night at the Hollywood Bowl, where we were treated to a performance by the late Dizzy Gillespie’s All-star Big Band. The band was formed in 1998, five years after he passed away, to continue the jazz legacy left by the late John Birks “Dizzy” Gillespie.

The band is comprised of many Gillespie Alumni including his closest collaborator James Moody, his former musical director Slide Hampton, Jimmy Heath, Claudio Roditi, Antonio Hart, Douglas Purviance, and executive director John Lee, Gillespie’s longtime bassist.

With a combination of big band and jazz, the performers played songs from Dizzy’s Business
to perfection under a starry night.

The opening acts performed “Samba del Rio” with Eric Marienthal as well as Herbie Hancok’s “Watermellon Man” and George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.”

It really didn’t matter who was on stage as the ambience of just being the Hollywood Bowl is truly a treat.

It was the final night of the Jazz-1 series, which included performances earlier this summer from Pancho Sanchez, Eddie Palmieri, Sergio Mendes, Boney James, Fourplay, Buddy Guy, Dr. John, and James Cotton.

Now that the Hollywood Bowl season is ending, it is time to prepare for the opening of the LA Philharmonic at the Disney Concert Hall with the introduction to our conductor, Dudamel.

Act Like a Lady – Think Like a Man

steveharveybook

It’s the number one relationship book online and in the bookstores. He’s been on Oprah. He’s just been named a special correspondent on parenting and relationships for Good Morning America. It’s been out since the beginning of the year, and it just made it into the Cyber-Dating Expert Reading Room.

You may be wondering, what took it so long? When ABC announced last week that Harvey would be joining the team, I finally went out and purchased his best-selling book.

You may have already read the book. But if you have not, I recommend Steve Harvey’s book, Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man: What Men Really Think About Love, Relationships, Intimacy, and Commitment for all the women who really want to know how men think.

It’s a simple book with a basic no brainer approach to understanding the male species. Harvey has his 90-day probationary rule and advises women not to “put out” before that time. He says you are worth the wait. He calls it the “cookie.”

The book helps women get into the mind-set of a man by listing three important facts on how a man looks at himself.

  • Who he is
  • What he does
  • How much money he makes

Harvey also adds three things that every man needs in a relationship from a woman.

  • Support
  • Loyalty
  • The “Cookie”

I call the “cookie” dessert. From a male’s standpoint, it’s the reward for his hard-working dollars. If a woman isn’t providing sex to her man, Harvey claims he WILL go elsewhere. It’s a simple tough-love formula and a terrific book.
