BritWeek Celebration With Performance By Seal
Apr 30th
For those other than the 1900 guests invited to the Royal Wedding, there were still many ways to celebrate across the county.
A few hours before Prince William and Kate Middleton’s nuptials at Westminster Abbey, I was among the several hundred attendees at LA Live’s Event Deck for the 5th Annual BritWeek Gala. The event honored Tim Leiweke, President and CEO AEG, home of the Staples Center and UK’s O2 Arena.
Grammy winning performer Seal attended the Gala with his beautiful wife, Super-Model and Project Runway Judge Heidi Klum. He performed 6 songs including Knock on Wood, Kiss from a Rose, along with his finale of Crazy.
It was the third time I had seen Seal perform live. With an intimate crowd, it was a spectacular way to honor the British festivities and a night to remember. Seal dedicated a love song to his wife and the crowd created a dance floor along the stage to sing along. Many of us went home without too much time to rest as the coverage began for the Royal Wedding.
Americans are More Excited than Brits about the Royal Wedding
Apr 28th
Admit it. You have Royal wedding fever, or perhaps a little regal envy about this week’s marriage between Prince William and Kate Middleton. After all, we haven’t had a Royal wedding in decades, let alone in this century.
In preparation for Friday’s celebration, I’ve added a tiara for the occasion and will be celebrating on Thursday evening at the BritWeek Gala, which includes a performance by Grammy-winning performer Seal. After dinner, I’ll come home and will join the millions of wedding enthusiasts on Twitter and Facebook for the very early morning broadcast (3am pacific time/6am eastern time). I’m just too excited to TIVO the festivities. At home, I’ll be nibbling on scones, sipping tea and sharing my thoughts with the Twitterverse @JulieSpira, so I hope you’ll join in on the conversation.
Am I excited? Of course I am. As a hopeful romantic I believe that watching a real-life fairy-tale-come-true takes us away from our day-to-day activities and brings love and joy into our lives.
Meanwhile, our friends at social dating community Zoosk took the time to survey 1000 singles to see how they felt about the Royal wedding. Their findings showed that more American singles (40%) will watch the ceremony on TV than their British counterparts (31%).
So where does that leave the remaining 60%?
According to Zoosk, a whopping 39% of their singles said they’d rather have root canal than watch the Royal wedding. Sitting in a dentist chair? That’s a strong feeling against the Royal wedding frenzy.
Does watching the Royal wedding make you wonder if you will be the next bride? More than half of the female Zooskers surveyed said yes, where less the majority of the men said it had no effect on their future marriage plans.
To wear, or not to wear a wedding ring. 75% of the women wish Prince William will wear a wedding ring. Even half of the men agreed on this point. Of the 1000 people surveyed, 66% wouldn’t want Prince Charles and Camilla as their in-laws.
Will you be watching the marriage ceremony on April 29th or sleeping in wishing it would finally be over? If you’ll be staying awake, perhaps you can multi-task and log onto your favorite online dating site to make the most of your time.

Taste for a Cure with Matthew Morrison and Laura Linney
Apr 17th
Listed as one of the “Top 10 Events of the Year” in southern California, the 16th annual “Taste for a Cure” honored Showtime’s President David Nevins. It was heartwarming evening filled with hope for those finding themselves at UCLA’s Jonnson Cancer Center with this frightening and often deadly disease.
400 guests attended the event to fight cancer at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel including honorary co-chair Laura Linney, from Showtime’s The Big C, Evan Handler from Sex and the City and Californication, with musical performances from Dancing with the Stars Julianne Hough and Matthew Morrison from Glee.
Select wines and regional dishes from Oregon’s Willamette Valley were sampled
during the cocktail reception.
Matthew Morrison’s “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” was the perfect song to touch our hearts and give hope to everyone whose lives need to be lifted and filled with joy.

Peril of the Week – I Swear He Shouldn’t Swear
Apr 15th
There’s nothing flattering about using the “F” word, whether on a date or not, so I’m perplexed when a man finds it so easy to say over-and-over on a date.
One of our favorite contributors Susana went on a date with a guy who was a big talker. He bragged about his accomplishments, name-dropped a few times about his Hollywood connections, discussed how much money he made 20-years ago, and spent most of his time talking about himself.
Susana, listened to his possible fish-tale stories and counted on her fingers from 1-10 how many times he used the F*! word until her frustration built up. She excused herself to go to the ladies room to take a break from the cursing. When she returned to the table, she apologized for the delay and said, “There was a big line at the ladies, room. You know how that goes.” Much to her surprise, her date responded with, “Us guys have it made. We just stand up and take a piss.” On that note, she didn’t care about his big job, fancy car, or to be in his company anymore. She thanked him and excused herself.
My dating advice: You only get a moment to make a first impression. You may get a grace period if you swear once and it slips out of your mouth. But a repeat offender won’t make it to the second date. It was a dating disaster and made it into the Peril of the Week.

Color Your World With Not-So-Blue Jeans
Apr 12th
It’s springtime and for many, it’s time to rearrange your closet to make room for warm-weather clothes or even splurge for some new additions to your wardrobe.
My recommendation this spring is to indulge in the wonderful palette of colors in denim jeans. Forget whether it’s black or blue, you can now wear a different pair of colored jeans every day of the week, and the brighter, the better.
From Victoria’s Secret VS Kiss Capri in red, priced at $39.50 to rose-colored MF Jeans for $130, there are a variety of styles and colors to choose from. So think back to your favorite color in the Crayola crayon box and you’ll be right in style on date night this season.
