Cyber Love Story of the Week – Karina and Michael

Karina was living in Rio de Janeiro and was a member of an instant messenger service called Odigo.

Michael was living in Los Angeles and started to communicate with Karina in 2002.  Via chat, she shared a story with Michael about a little girl she saw sitting on a sidewalk on the dirty streets. Karina bought her a sandwich and a soda, and wondered how many more starving children could use her help.

That was the beginning of their new friendship. Within months, the two became best-friends.  Michael moved to Brazil to be with Karina and the following year they were married in Las Vegas.

In true Internet dating style, their friends and family around the world watched them get married at a chapel that had a webcam service. Together they developed a mobile social platform with Check-Mates, designed to help empower children.
