Here’s a little history about Cyber Dating Expert and why I started this site:

Created in 2008, Cyber-Dating Expert was launched to support the online dating industry and single daters looking for love online. Originally, the stories were all from my personal dating experiences, and there were many. We launched with two very popular features, the Cyber Love Story of the Week and the Peril of the Week, where singles and couples can share their online dating stories. Some are heartwarming, some are heartbreaking, and some are simply hilarious.

As an early adopter of the Internet, I created my first online dating profile in 1994. After personally going on hundreds of dates after a painful heartbreak and then finding love on the web,  I memorialized my story in my bestselling book, The Perils of Cyber-Dating: Confessions of a Hopeful Romantic Looking for Love Online.

Being a former rock and roll DJ, it was time to dust off the headphones and go back on the air. We launched Ask the Cyber Dating Expert Show on Valentine’s Day in 2009 with Shayan Zadeh, co-founder of social dating site ZOOSK as our first guest. Since that time, we’ve featured hundreds of online dating CEOs and bestselling relationship authors on the program.  Offline, I spend a lot of time helping singles find love online through my irresistible coaching programs, including creating irresistible profiles for daters.

In addition to the articles on Cyber Dating Expert, you’ll find my dating and relationship advice on Date Daily, eHarmony, GenConnect, JDate, Match.com, YourTango, and Zoosk. I also write about the marriage of love and technology on Huffington Post and our press room is filled with hundreds of articles and interviews to help you with your cyberdating journey. It’s been an honor and pleasure to have reached millions of singles and I’m personally touched by your support.

Cyber Dating Expert is not only a labor of love, it’s a destination site for singles who have learned to spice up their love lives with our Love Potions recipes, regular dating advice, and recommended books in our Reading Room.

Votes are being accepted from now through midnight EST on March 31st. You can vote for us daily. If you love our content, let us know and help us win!

Dating Advice – Why Her First boyfriend Probably Isn’t “the one”

Ask the Cyber-Dating Expert

Cyber-Dating Expert

The excitement of a first love or first crush can make your emotions fly high, hormones hit the roof, and create a feeling of overall happiness. However, in your early 20s, it’s more likely that it’s the first of many new relationships.

Read my dating advice for Dara who met her first boyfriend online.

Dear Julie:

I’m a very inexperienced 23-year-old and I’ve never had a boyfriend, until now. I joined Mate1.com about two weeks ago and met a really great guy.

We chat almost everyday, exchange calls, and even met up a few times. He is kind, respectful, and gives me as much space as I need, but lately things have become quite intimate and I think I might be developing some serious feelings.

My question is; am I rushing into things? Should I try meeting other guys to see what else is out there? I’ve felt so happy since I met him, but then I’m not used to getting attention from men so is it because of him or the attention?

Dara

Hi Dara,

Congratulations on meeting a quality guy online. At 23-years old, you are aware that you are not very experienced with men. Chatting with your new beau almost every day after only a few weeks of dating is a good sign that you are developing a relationship.

What kind of relationship? It’s too soon for anyone at any age to know after two weeks. It’s important to know that when a woman becomes intimate with a man, she automatically bonds to him.

The chemicals are released and you might even feel like you love this man early on. If you have serious feelings for him and the feelings are mutual, just enjoy it. He has all of the qualities of a dream guy so far. Unless you have the conversation about being exclusive, assume you are not.

By dating other men, it will help keep this new relationship in perspective. If you both decide together to retire your online dating profiles, then you will need to focus on this relationship and treat him the way you want to be treated.

Enjoying the honeymoon phase of a new relationship and see where it goes. Don’t put too expectations on the relationship and hope that he is as happy as you are.

Cyber Dating Safety on WPIX-TV

Tamsen Fadal and Julie Spira

Tamsen Fadal and Julie Spira at WPIX

This morning, I was a featured guest on WPIX in New York with dating and relationship expert, Tamsen Fadal.

Online dating is a terrific way to meet someone when your friends aren’t fixing you up anymore. However, you don’t know who is behind the computer screen just yet.

Today we talked about some of my recommended online dating safety tips.

They included:

• Never Give Out Your Last Name – Protect your identity
• Never Give Out Your Address – I suggest that singles consider using a P.O. box for their mailing address
• Never Talk About Money – First date conversations should be light and casual
• Always Meet In A Public Place – If you uncomfortable, you can always leave
• Use the “Buddy System” (Telling a Friend Where You’ll Be and Who You’ll Be With)

Practice these tips for safe cyberdating and enjoy the experience while looking for love online.
