Let Me Call You Sweetheart – Dating Advice for Sweetest Day

Saturday, October 17th is National Sweetest Day. The holiday was created over 60 years ago by a Cleveland man who wanted to show the city’s orphans and the underprivileged that they were remembered.

In modern times, Sweetest Day is a good excuse and time for singles and couples to do nice gestures for each other. Fill the day with random acts of kindness and have a reason to celebrate.

Here are some suggestions and my dating advice for exchanging simple gifts and honoring your online date on National Sweetest Day.

A Single Rose. Bring your date one single rose. It has the same impact as the full dozen.

In Home Dining. Create a date night on Saturday night where the two of you cook together at home. Set the table with candles. If you don’t have time, bring home take-out or stop by the grocery store.

Love notes. Write a love note to your significant other and leave it on their pillow in the morning.

Simple Gifts. Buy a bottle of massage oil or foot massage cream for dessert.

Candy. ?It is Sweetest Day, so pick up a heart-shaped chocolate from your local chocolatier and present it to your date with a bow.

Music. Select a romantic CD of love songs to play in the background for your romantic dinner for two.

I hope you enjoy national Sweetest Day and if you get lucky in love, please do let us know!

Sandra Bullock Giving Dating Tips?

First, it was Brad Pitt, who told fans in the August-2009 edition of WIRED magazine to lie about their age in their online dating profiles.

Now, another Hollywood star is dishing out her dating advice. This time, it’s actress, Sandra Bullock. Bullock was quoted in a recent article on Female First as suggesting a woman secretly “stalk” the man she is interested in to learn more about him. She added that it was a good way for a woman to lure in her prey.

In Bullock’s new film, All About Steve, she plays the role of Mary Horowitz who becomes obsessed about a man after their first blind date.?

Would dating tips like these scare a good man away??

In a recent column on Date Daily, I was asked by a gentleman how to handle a woman who turned out to be a cyber-stalker. This of course, was after the fact when the relationship ended.

Bullock’s film is scheduled to be released this Friday, September 4, 2009.

Date Daily: Online Women Wanting Hookups and Facebook Woes

Women complain about the men they meet in online dating sites who only want to have casual flings and hook-up. It appears the tables have turned and now some men aren’t happy about it either.

Read my answer to this question, along with dating advice for the woman with Facebook status woes in DateDaily.

3 Ways for a Man to Charm a Woman

They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. I am not here to dispute this long-time saying, but what should a man do to charm a woman he is pursuing?

The answer is to keep it simple. Going overboard will only scare a woman away, especially if it is very early in the relationship.

Here are my three suggestions that will make a great impression on a woman and won’t break the bank.

1. Surprise her a CD of her favorite music. If you aren’t sure, it’s a good question early on to ask a woman and shows that you are paying attention. There’s an added benefit as every time she listens to it, she will be reminded of you.

2. Bring her one rose or a bouquet of tulips. Believe it or not, one rose has the same impression on the recipient as the complete dozen at 1/12th of the cost. If you prefer a full bouquet, try red tulips. She’ll say thank you and will remember this kind gesture.

3. Charm her with chocolate. It’s true, chocolate is an aphrodisiac. Dark chocolate is filled with antioxidants and can actually lower your blood pressure. Besides, nibbling on chocolate together can be quite sexy.

Is Breaking Up Really Hard to Do?

Breaking upBreaking up. It happens every day. When it happens in Hollywood, it’s national news. Privacy for celebrities isn’t the only concern for couples now a days. There was even a movie called The Break-Up with Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughan a few years ago.

Modern technology has created a common trend of breaking up in a text message or an email. Even a voicemail break-up is becoming almost as obsolete as the old fashioned way, in person.

I was recently a guest on 700-WLW in Cincinnati with Eddie Fingers and Tracy Jones. We were talking about the recent break up of Jessica Simpson by Tony Romo the day before her 29th birthday. All I could say was, “OUCH!”

The pressure of holidays keeps many relationships together longer than they really should last. It’s the slow F-A-D-E. After all, who want’s to be home alone on New Year’s Eve or on Valentine’s Day?

So, why is it that every week I hear about a break-up in a text message? Why would someone dump their fiance in an email or in a voicemail? The easiest way according to the afternoon drive team at WLW is to do the fade away, and disappear and go POOF! This is called “ghosting” in the dating world, but is it right? How many people really have the courage to end a relationship amicably in person? Unfortunately, not enough according to what I am hearing in the singles scene.

So go ahead and say you would like to be friends, even if you don’t mean it to avoid getting slapped in the face. But please, don’t break up with your significant other in a text message or an email, especially right before a birthday, anniversary or Valentine’s Day. And if you do select the electronic way to deliver your message, don’t be upset when it appears all over the public Internet, on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and in an email blast. It’s the simple revenge a jilted girlfriend or boyfriend may end up doing if they are feeling bitter about the way you handled it.
