Wow. I am surprised to hear that opinion coming from a man… And truth be told, I very much disagree with him. There are definitely times when a cheater should not be forgiven but to cluster every cheating incident together is wrong. Life happens. Relationships have their issues and sometimes, people make the mistake of dealing with those issues via cheating. Sometimes it’s a cry for help..granted, I’m not justifying the behavior as a substitute for communication (in fact, I think every recovering relationship should attend counseling during the aftermath) ..
Sometimes we’re too cowardly to leave a broken relationship, so we screw up and take the easy way out- But assuming the two people really do love each other the guilty party needs to be warned that it’ll be hard work ahead.
If they’re willing to do the work, I think they deserve a second chance.
I agree with both Julie & Charles. Cheating is an act of betrayal that can be forgiven but never forgotten. I agree with Charles in that in most cases you should walk away. However, I agree with Julie too– if young children are involved you may want consider forgiveness and a lot of marriage counseling.
