Steely Dan – Perfection at the Rent Party ’09 Tour

It was nothing short of perfect on opening night of the Steely Dan Rent Party ’09 tour in Los Angeles. This 28-day tour by the iconic band included four special stops: New York, Boston, Los Angeles, and will visit Chicago, where on separate nights they perform select classic albums in their entirety.?

While in LA, I had the opportunity to see Walter Becker and Donald Fagen at their sold-out?Aja
show on August 21, 2009 at the Gibson Amphitheatre. ?Tonight they will be performing Gaucho
and on Monday they will feature The Royal Scam.

Tuesday will be their “Taking it to the Seats” request night, where ticket-holders had the opportunity to vote on their favorite Steely Dan songs online.?

Following the completion of ‘Aja,’ the crowd gave the band a standing ovation. We were then treated to a selection of 14 additional songs, many of which I used to play on the radio. My favorite was “My Old School” from the Countdown To Ecstasy?album, originally released in 1973.

The trio of female vocalists brought me back to the time when I used to listen to songs from The Supremes and added a slice of perfection to those on stage.

Steely Dan fans will be treated to a guest performance by Larry Carlton on August 24th and 25th in Los Angeles and again on September 3rd and 4th in Chicago. Carlton, is known for his?famous guitar solo on ?Kid Charlemagne?, which made Rolling Stone?s list of 100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time.
