To Kiss, or Not to Kiss – First Date Rules [video]

The question came up in our He said, She Said video on YourTango on whether you should kiss or not on the first date. As Dr. Adam Sheck and I duke it out, ?I think I kiss isn’t mandatory on a first date to get to a second date. However, if you do engage in an exciting kiss and you feel some chemistry with your date, let them know you enjoyed it and make sure to put a second date on the calendar.

Hmm, I definitely think a kiss should likely happen on the first date. But if not, definitely on the second date. Otherwise, you’re quickly just becoming sort of awkward friends.

A kiss on a first date, if it happens, is a fantastic chemistry test. If I’m not into the guy that much (or at all) I’m grossed out if not only he leaned in, but planted an un-welcomed one. Eeew! But if the conversation is good, sparkly, mini-magically stuff seems to float than by all means snogging becomes a must when saying good-bye! So I am with “what HE said”.

Thanks for your comments. At some point, if there hasn’t been a kiss on the first few dates, it’s unlikely one will appear 6-months down the road.

I think kissing on the first date is great as long as both people want it. It’s a way to see if there’s romantic chemistry and if a connection exists. In fact, the longer you wait to make the move, the less likely it’ll happen. If you haven’t kissed by the third date, it’s probably not going anywhere.

Thanks for your comment Nick. I think at the end of a first date if there’s a kiss and you do feel that romantic chemistry, make sure to put a second date on the calendar, or it could easily fizzle out.
