Jewish Mobile Dating Apps for Hanukkah

Chanukah HatJewish singles have quite a few options while looking for love online.

They can select their religious beliefs and those who they seek to meet in the check off box on traditional online dating sites and apps such as OkCupid or Match, or sign up for the long-time favorite JDate, where you can select just what branch of Judaism you practice, if any at all. These days, it’s easier to find a Jewish mate with some of these mobile dating apps to help fill your calendar for the eight days of Hanukkah and beyond.

So grab your latkes, light some candles and get ready to start swiping.

JSwipeJSwipe – Now a favorite among Jewish millennials, JSwipe has users in 70 countries. JSwipe is free to join and has been called the “Tinder” for Jews. You can select which sect of Judaism you practice and just how Kosher you are. Once you’re matched with someone, there’s an 18 day countdown before your match expires, so you’re encouraged to start communicating. Eighteen, is the number for good luck in Judaism. The bonus is if you swipe left by mistake, your match still appears at the bottom of the screen. Just tap on him or her and he will return for you to review the profile again, without a charge.

JfiixJfiix – Created by JDate’s original founder, Joe Shapira, Jfiix initially launched in Israel and caught on quickly. They launched over the Jewish New Year in the U.S. and we have high hopes for this app. Singles can sign up for free and either “like” or “skip” on a potential match that is sent to them. The matches revolve on a carousel type (360) feature so you’re presented with a bouquet of potential dates to view without having to swipe left or right. You can start also chatting without becoming a mutual match. Jfiix has about 25,000 users in the U.S. and is growing by about 400 a day. The app boasts about 250,000 chat conversations every day. The biggest benefit is, it’s completely free.

JCrush MobileJCrush – To join JCrush, you can sign in with Facebook. When you see a match, you can click on the “Star” icon or swipe right as a “Crush” if you’re interested or the tap the X icon or swipe left for an “Oy Vey” for a digital thumbs down. Once you have a mutual crush, you can start communicating. There’s a “Maybe” option if you want to think about it before sending your potential match into the permanent delete file. Just maybe, your date wasn’t so great last night and you might want to revisit that standby.

J Date MobileJDate Mobile – With the tagline of “Find Love Anywhere You Go,” JDate’s mobile app mirrors their website and makes it easy to find love on your mobile phone. The app lets you find members of the Tribe nearby and lets you chat instantly. They’ll send you your top matches, as well as let you conduct your own search. It’s the best of both worlds. If you’re already a JDate member, your mobile profile will grab the information from the desktop version. You can then edit your profile if you like on the app. Under Activity, you can see who has viewed your profile, so I recommend using this feature to reach out to someone who has viewed you to improve your chances of connecting. If you want to send a message, you must subscribe to be a premium member.

Cyber Love Story – Todd and Rozie

Cyber Love Story - Todd and RozieTodd and Rozie were both members of JDate where they were looking for love online.

Both the two of them were frustrated with the search process and were about to let their memberships expire.

Rozie decided to give the online dating game one last shot when she sent Todd an email that simply said, “You look cute. I like your profile.”

Rozie didn?t even have an online dating profile photo posted and most of the details in her profile were left blank.

Todd was hesitant to reply, but figured he’d say hello and ask her to send him a picture. He was glad he did so as when he received Rozie’s photo, he thought she was really cute.

After about one month of email exchanges and a few phone calls, they finally met up in person. Their first date was scheduled for drinks after work, but the conversation led to dinner. Dinner turned into afterglow drinks and their first casual drink date lasted for seven hours! The two went home separately at 2am, only because they needed to get to work the next day.

After seven months of dating, Todd proposed marriage to Rozie in a romantic way at the tallest tower in Krakow, Poland. It was the largest square in Europe.

They married a year and a half later and now have two children.

Congratulations to Todd and Rozie who let the conversation flow and fell in love on JDate

JDate is Responsible for More Jewish Marriages [infographic]

Just in time for the Jewish New Year, online dating site JDate has published an infographic showing a milestone of almost 1000 marriages since their inception in 2003.

The Jewish online dating site commissioned ResearchNow to survey married Jewish Internet users. The results showed that JDate is responsible for more Jewish marriages than all of the other major online dating sites combined.

Of the 948 who participated in the survey, 52% who married met on JDate.

It makes sense if religion is important to you to visit an online dating site with singles sharing the same belief. Singles appear to be dating up a storm. Five out of 9 Jews who were surveyed and were married since 2008, used an online dating site in their search for love.

Are you a member of a niche online dating site focusing on religion? Comments are welcome and you can sign up for JDate in our Dating Community.

How to Block Your Date – Try JDate’s New Feature

Say Goodbye to your Online Date

I received an email in my Inbox today from JDate?, the largest online dating site for Jewish singles ?announcing their new all-block feature. The email simply said, “JDate’s Got Your Block.” It was a catchy email and got my attention.

Now at the bottom of each online dating profile on their site, you have the ability to say goodbye forever to the bad date or former beau who broke your heart while looking for love online.

Since cyberdating safety is such a hot issue now, I think this is a great move from JDate. It’s simple to use and not much different than Facebook’s blocking feature. If you want to block someone for inappropriate behavior or someone you simply don’t want to have looking at your personal and online identities, here’s instructions on how to block your date:

1. You pull up a profile of someone you are interested in blocking.

2. At the bottom of the profile, it will say Report a Concern and the word Block.

3. Click on Block and a drop down menu will appear with the choice of:

  • Block member from?contacting?you
  • Block member from?appearing?in your search results
  • Block member from?viewing your profile?in his/her search results

4. Click Submit and you’re done.

Voila! You have erased that person from your search and from contacting you, should you desire.

Should you use their blocking features? I think it’s terrific that you are given a choice of options. ?From putting one toe in to the entire 10, the selection is up to you.

Naturally, the person you have blocked may realize you have done so, but dating should be about a matter of choice. If you’re uncomfortable, then go ahead and block someone. If you want to leave the door open for future communication, then I suggest you don’t block him or her. They won’t be happy to see you have done so.

For those who haven’t been able to get over their ex and are obsessively looking at their profile, this feature is for you.

At the end of the day, you’ll want to enjoy your experience and find someone to meet online rather than spend time on deciding which profiles you should block.

Will you use their blocking feature? Comments are always appreciated.
